Denis was healthy, happy, charming inquisitive and caring boy, always on the go. He turned 20 at oktober 15.2023. Just a week after, he got home after work and was vomiting at our front door.
One of his friends followed him home, after he completed over strong headache.
My husband and me could see that something was wrong with Denis, but at that point, we were confused, because Denis seemed to be acting like he was drunk, but he wasn’t drinking alcohol. He just got home from work.
But his behavior was strange, his speech was blurred and he couldn’t stand up.
I decided to call ambulance and meanwhile we helped Denis lay on his bed.
But Denis couldn’t lay still, he started to get up, holding his head with both hands.
He couldn’t answer straight to our questions.
We were so worried, but couldn’t help him.
When ambulance arrived, they were running test, and Denis got still, like he was falling in deep sleep.
That image is strong printed in my memory, my son was like a candle going out…
At the point he arrived to the hospital, he was unconscious.
CT scan showed that he got Hemorrhagic stroke after ruptured AVM on cerebellum.
Denis was transferred to the neurological department with a helicopter to another iceland.
He was treated with a loth of care and stuff who were extremely dedicated to help him.
Doctors were realistic and awarded us that odds of waking up from coma are minimalistic./ At that point was it difficult to see, due the drainage of fluids from the brain/
The damage was to big and only miracle could save him.
We were praying for 7 days for miracle.
It was terrible to watch our Denis lays in bed, attached to respirator, drain and other devices, totally helpless and we could not do anything at all …
But that was not even the worst.
Deciding the moment when your child should take the last breath is the definition of agony.
We are broken and we will never come over this traumatic tragedy that hit us like the lightning above . We will never be able to understand what or why it happened.
It is hard to explain to other people how we lost our son, because it is so rare…
I hope that there is a meaning with everything that happens in our lives, otherwise will I never be awared of AVM existence, and I feel now that I am not alone, there are other who are also wondering and feel confusion, sadness and may be frustrated about so many unanswered questions.
